The Mitchell Center joins with the UH Moores School of Music to present a three-day music festival featuring the work of Joan Tower, one of our nations most original composers of modern music. Tower will join us in residence, along with acclaimed piano soloist and chamber musician Melvin Chen.
Rescheduled due to Hurrican Ike. Originally programmed in conjunction with Blaffer Gallery's 2008 exhibition Damaged Romanticism: A Mirror of Modern Emotion.

Thursday October 1 Recital: Pianist Melvin Chen
Critically acclaimed pianist Melvin Chen performs works by Joan Tower, Ligeti and Brahms.
Friday October 2 AURA Concert
AURA, the Moores School of Music Contemporary Ensemble, performs chamber music by Joan Tower with Jeremy Justeson (alto saxophone), Andrzej Grabiec (violin), Tim Hester (piano) and Jeffrey Lerner (clarinet).
Saturday October 3 Orchestra Concert The Moores School Symphony Orchestra, Franz Krager, director, performs three orchestral works by Joan Tower, with concerto soloists Melvin Chen (piano) and Blake Wilkins (percussion), and Richard Strauss’ Don Juan.
